Think for yourself.
Our thought processes are usually more of a bane than it is a boon. More often than not, we think more than we act. We analyze more than we react. Thinking is bad enough when you do too much of it on your own, but when you listen to other people's thought processes and absorb them as your own, you become ultimately and literally doomed.
I have two great friends who have succumbed to peer pressure more often than you can imagine. What's funny is how both of them are reluctant to admit it. They pretend as though they're fine going through life without a care in the world what and how people perceive them to be but when and if they hear something which isn't complimentary or downright rude and insulting, they do bat an ear.
But what if it's not an insult? What if their selfishness gets the better of you, and you being blinded by the 'pureness' of friendship, actually start to listen to them?
"Don't go to Bali, you might get bombed and we'd lose you...then we'd have no one to party with anymore.."
or
"Don't buy that car...it's too small, how are we ever going to fit inside it?"
Do you see how selfish those two sentences sound? I'm sure we've all heard it at some point in our life. But we usually shrug it off as a joke for the sake of friendship.
Sometimes when we're used to having someone in our lives for too long, the thought of losing him/her is too much to bare. You can't imagine going to your favourite coffee joint alone, nor can you imagine going out to clubs with 'other' people.
We all have our 'circle of friends'. We all know how it feels when one of them involuntarily takes a leave of absence due to certain unavoidable circumstances (usually being marriage or a new relationship) We lose one crucial element in the group. Maybe he was the funny one, or the smart one or the good looking one.
Come on. Let them be. Give them a chance to enjoy their life on their own accord. Just because they don't drink anymore or don't club anymore or just plain don't...doesn't make them any less of a person. It actually means they're just growing up. You don't have someone to 'teman' you to the clubs you frequent?
Too Bad then. It's not like going to clubs is a necessity.
Neither is drinking. Or any other detrimental acts for that matter.
One day you'll realise that too.
Haih. I know how it feels to voluntarily let your friend go. But if they're happy, why not let them be? I'm sure you'd want to be happy too.
You have no idea how great it feels to see your friends laugh and smile, louder and wider than ever before. All they want to do is talk about how happy they are. As you sit there, looking at them from across the table...you know that true happiness is something that should be cherished and treasured for as long as humanly possible.
You can actually see the 'twinkle' in their eyes. I've got two good friends who have also found love in the past month. Actually it's three, but one of them can't decide on which of the two boys to choose from...darling if you're reading this...choose the guy whose name sounds like our first Prime Minister okay?
Seeing them talk, ramble and write about the ones they love can be therepeutic at times. It makes you realise that there is a whole lot of good still left in this world.
So please, if your friends are happy...be happy for them. Smile with them, listen to their stories and if need be, tell them that how glad you are for them, again and again and again...
The funny thing is...that three months ago, Me, Ezar and Mira had dinner in Opus. Back then, all three of us had the notion that love can wait. We all agreed that if push came to shove, we'd intermarry one another. Lol.
Who would've guessed all three of us would find someone not two days of one another?
As our first month comes to a close, I'd like to wish the both of you my heartiest congratulations on your newfound happiness. Just remember to not let other people's advice ruin things for you. Your partners love you guys immensely.
You know that, they know that, we know that.
Just enjoy the ride. It's the best time of your life. :)
